A modern horse breed the Heck horse was created by German breeders Lutz Heck and Heinz Heck in an attemp to create a horse breed to resemble the extint tarpan horse breed. Originating in Europe Heck horses were lated exported to the USA, the Heck breed association was formed in the 1960s
The last know wild tarpan horse died in 1879 due to being hunted for meat, the tarpan breed finally went extint in 1909 when the final horse in captivity in Russia.
